3 factors that affect the range of your doorbell

Doorbells with a wireless receiver send a signal to the receiver as soon as someone rings the doorbell. Manufacturers indicate the maximum distance between the doorbell and receiver in meters. Usually this is between 50 and 100 meters. In practice, the maximum distance is less great. There are several reasons for this, which we will explain in this article.

1. Concrete Walls and Obstacles

The maximum range of a doorbell is measured in an open field. With this measurement, there are no obstacles that affect the range. If the receiver is in your house, that is of course different. In a house with thick concrete walls, the maximum range will be a lot lower. If a home is well insulated, it also affects the wireless range. Therefore, place a receiver with relatively little range in a place without obstacles.

2. Wireless equipment

Many devices in the house communicate with each other via a wireless protocol, such as WiFi or Bluetooth. The advantage of this is that you have few loose cables in the house, but all these signals sometimes influence each other. In exceptional cases, other devices reduce the range of your wireless receiver. Therefore, do not place the receiver too close to other equipment.

3. Other signals in and around the house

Electrical devices without wireless communication also affect the signal of your doorbell and receiver. Take, for example, the microwave or television. You don’t realize it, but the devices continuously emit (very limited) radiation. When too many of these signals are mixed up, the overall range becomes lower. When placing the receiver, you also take devices without wireless communication into account.

Prevent destruction or theft of your video doorbell
by mounting the CMD doorbell protector!

Most video doorbells come with a pin that allows you to easily and quickly remove the video doorbell. However, this can also be a way through which the video doorbell can be easily stolen. You want to avoid this when you are not at home (eg vacation or a weekend away) and would like to keep an eye on things.  With the CMD doorbell protector you make theft or destruction a lot more difficult. To make things even more difficult, you can attach the video doorbell protection case/cover with  anti-theft screws .
